[ches didn't need to twist her arm in order for them to meet again; in fact, wanda sends him a message one day asking him to meet her at her horizon domain, and she waits. it is a cabin amidst a range of mountains, overlooking a lake. the place could compare to ches's idea of the ideal place to escape to, with how open and uninterrupted by structures it is.
the forest to the side peaks with activity, the nosy crows she keeps there as a form of alarm cawing, alerting her of someone else's presence. wanda remains seated, though, at the steps of her cabin.
[Ches doesn't have a lot of experience with exploring other people's Domains. Generally, he keeps to himself in the Horizon, preferring to enjoy the little taste of home that it offers, regardless of the creepy automaton version of his brother that lives in the kitchen.
Still, it's surprisingly easy to find Wanda's Domain. It's not just a sense of Wanda that the place evokes, but her scent, one he knows quite well at this point. He can scent her on the wind, can scent the trail she took to get from her Domain to his the times she's visited.
The Domain is beautiful, something he could've come up with if he wasn't so lonely for home. A forest, a cabin, a lake surrounded by rocky shores and evergreen trees. The air is fresh and the crows are noisy, and it looks and feels like something he'd find in his own province back home. He makes his way to the cabin and sees her waiting there, lifts a hand to wave at her.]
[she replies in greeting, standing up now as he gets closer. a hand against one of the posts on the porch, she glances outward at the mountains that flank the backdrop of her domain. yes, this is the sight of sokovia as she remembers it best; mountains that were a constant in her life despite being in the city.]
This is part of Sokovia, though some people will say it's not called that anymore.
[as he gets closer, she raises an eyebrow.]
I thought I was going to have a wolf coming to my doorstep.
[she's joking—but it's an easy way to show him that there's no tension here, just friendly banter.]
[He's not lying either. It looks more like a place he could find at the coast of the province, with the type of forest it is, the bluffs and the lake. It's calming, in a different way than the familiar forests and rivers of his own home, not as hot in the summer but cool in winter. He can imagine how gorgeous it looks when there's snow on all those trees.]
Far as I'm concerned, it's still Sokovia.
[It's not a country name that he's ever heard of, but he knows he has a limited view of the world at large, having grown up on his farm his whole life, without having even traveled to the next province over.]
Mmm, I thought of it. Faster to travel, but I didn't know if you'd recognize me that way. Wouldn't want to scare you.
[Her joke is appreciated, it leaves him feeling comfortable talking about who and what he is, and that's always a feeling that means a lot to him.]
[wanda scrunches her nose at that, trying to push down the delighted little smile on her features. for some stranger to just openly accept sokovia—it's refreshing, really. everyone else from her world tries to pretend it doesn't exist, or at least it feels that way.
probably for her own sake, and yet—]
I was raised with scary stories like Baba Yaga and the Zimniy Soldat. I promise you that a wolf would not frighten me.
[especially when she knows—and when she can sense that it would be a friend. it's easy enough to allow her magic to catch on to threads of thoughts and emotions of others in a superficial level.
tentatively, she motions towards the door.]
It is my turn to play host. I have tea and paprikash.
[Without context, he wouldn't know that people avoid talking about Sokovia, though she'd mentioned it doesn't exist anymore back home, so he can imagine it would have some negative connotations. But that's why he doesn't hesitate to tell her it's beautiful and that he likes it, because he'd be happy to have someone accept his home so openly, and he can imagine she might like it too.
A laugh, when she mentions Baba Yaga...he's heard that one. The other one though...]
Huh. Jasha has never mentioned Zimniy Soldat, and he's mentioned just about every legend he has back home. He's kind of superstitious that way.
[When she gestures at the door, he grins and nods, waiting for her to head in first before following.]
I'd love to hear about it over some good food and tea. If you feel like sharing.
[wanda gives him a bit of a look before— oh, coming to understand something.]
It could very well be that our story about the Zimniy Soldat, the Winter Soldier, as it is translated to, is not part of your world.
[there are those instances of worlds that are incredibly different from one another, and then there are those with so many intrinsic similarities, except for a couple of things that don't add up. wanda figures that this is the case with chester's world in comparison to her own.
in she goes, into the cabin, a small modest place. it is cozy in any case, and wanda urges chester to seat at the table while she moves adjacently to the kitchen; there are no doors here, so all rooms are connected.]
The tale of Zimniy Soldat is that of a soldier created in a lab. He is as quiet as the night, moves using the shadows, and he will kill with no hesitation. He takes no hostages and no witnesses, [she ladles the paprikash into a bowl for him and herself, bringing it over to set on the table.] and should you see him, you will be marked to be his next prey.
—or that's what they said, anyway. [hmm...] Oh, spoons.
[as if remembering—she taps the air with a finger, and sparkles of scarlet have a spoon appear on the table by him, and one for herself on the other side.]
I have water too, if you rather leave the tea for after.
